PayPal checkout (REST-API)

If you integrate PayPal Checkout into your online gallery, your customers can not only pay with their PayPal account in your shop, but they also have other payment methods at their disposal. This means that even customers who do not have a PayPal account can easily pay via PayPal by direct debit or credit card.

After paying via the PayPal checkout, the customer is redirected back to the shop and must confirm the order there to finalise the purchase. If the customer does not do this, you will see the authorised payment in your PayPal account. Do not collect this, as the customer has not completed the order.

Request API key (client ID) and key

  1. Go to https://developer.paypal.com/ and click on Log in to Dashboard. Log in with the credentials for your PayPal business account.
  2. Click on Apps & Credentials.
  3. On the right side you will see a toggle box for Sandbox and Live. Switch it to Live.
  4. Click on Create app. A new window opens. Give your REST application a name (Portraitbox), select Merchant and click on Create app.
  5. As soon as the REST application is created, your client ID will be visible. To see the secret, click on Show. Client ID = API key / Secret = key.

Activation in your gallery

To use your PayPal account in the online gallery, you need to make one more setting. To do this, click on Settings / Payment methods in the admin area. Here you need to tick the PayPal box and then select PayPal Checkout (REST API). Enter your API key (CLIENT ID) and key in the corresponding field and click on save.

Tip: Please make a test order in your online gallery via PayPal to check whether you receive the money correctly.

Make sure you enter the details of your PayPal business customer account correctly, otherwise no payments will be received.
